Joint accounts
A joint account is one taxable account that you own with another person. You open it, invite your co-owner, and it opens once you've both signed.
How do I open a joint account?
- Choose Joint. When you open an account, pick Joint.
- Answer the usual questions. They're the same as for any account.
- Enter your co-owner's details. Their full name and email address.
- Send the invitation. Tap Send Invitation. We email it to your co-owner.
What does my co-owner do?
They open the email, confirm their identity and review the account agreements. If they don't have an alooola login yet, they create one along the way.
How do I know where it stands?
Open the account from Home. Its page shows the current step, such as:
- Waiting on your co-owner: they haven't finished their part yet
- Co-owner reviewing agreements: they're reading and signing
- Action needed: it's your turn. Tap Review & sign agreements
- Finalizing your account: you've both signed, and we're opening it
The account can't open until you've both signed. Until then it has no settings, deposits or withdrawals.
How do I add money to a joint account?
Make a deposit as usual, and pick the bank in the From row. See Deposits and withdrawals. Joint accounts don't have Funding switches on a bank's page.
What can each owner do?
Both owners have full rights, including withdrawing money. Both of you see the account on Home, and both see its statements and tax forms.
Can I have more than one joint account?
Yes, one with each co-owner. You can't open a second joint account with the same person.
Is a joint account the same as sharing with my spouse?
No. Sharing with your spouse lets you see each other's own accounts, view-only. A joint account is owned by both of you.
