Connect your 401(k)
If your employer offers an alooola 401(k), connecting it puts your workplace plan on the same dashboard as everything else, and lets you change your contributions without logging into a separate portal.
Connecting your 401(k) is part of signing up, not a separate task you start later. During registration we look your plan up by name, Social Security number and date of birth. If we find you, we show you the plan and ask whether you want to set it up.
If you skipped it at the time, or your employer added the plan after you joined, email support@alooola.com and we will sort it out with you.
Step by step
We look for your plan
Registering is enough to start the search. We use the name, Social Security number, and date of birth you gave then, and all three have to match your employer's plan records exactly.
Confirm it is yours
We show the plan we found: your name, your employer, the plan name, and the current balance. Check it, then tap That's me.
Review and sign the disclosures
The participant agreement, the fee disclosure notice, and the investment advisory agreement. Read and accept to continue.
Choose how it is invested
Managed for me: answer a few questions and we build the portfolio and keep it on track. Self-manage: pick your own investments from the funds available in the plan.
Set the portfolio
If you chose managed, swipe through the strategies and pick the one that fits. Each shows its holdings and their weights.
Confirm your contributions
Review your pre-tax rate, post-tax rate, and your employer's match, then tap Confirm & Link. That is it. The plan appears on your dashboard.
Changing your contributions later
Open the 401(k) from your home screen and tap Contribute to adjust your pre-tax and post-tax percentages. Changes take effect on the next payroll run your employer processes, so give it a pay cycle before you expect to see it.
Getting the match
Most employer matches require you to contribute a minimum percentage. The confirmation screen shows what your employer matches up to. If your rate is below that number, you are leaving money behind. Raise it there.
Annual 401(k) contributions are capped by the IRS, and the cap changes most years. The app shows the current limit and how close you are to it.
Why connect it
- Update contributions without a separate portal
- See your whole picture, with the plan next to your IRA and taxable accounts on one dashboard
- One strategy across everything, instead of a workplace plan drifting on its own
Common problems
- We cannot find your plan. Your employer may not use alooola for their 401(k), or your details may not match their payroll records exactly. Check your legal name and try again.
- The balance looks wrong. Plan balances update on the recordkeeper's schedule, which is not always same-day.
- You changed jobs. A plan from a former employer usually needs a rollover rather than a connection. See Transfer outside accounts or email us.
