App overview

What each screen shows, and where to find the number you are looking for.

Net worth, allocation, and the detail behind a single holding. 47 seconds, no sound.

Home

The first screen shows your net worth across every alooola account, with a performance line you can scale from one week to all time, and your accounts listed below with their balances.

Tap any account to open it.

ElementWhat it tells you
Total balanceCurrent value of the account
Allocation ringThe split across equities, income, and diversifiers
Equity / cash barHow much is invested versus sitting in cash
Pending itemsTrades or transfers that have not settled yet

Swipe the card at the top to move between the allocation ring, the equity and cash split, and the balance chart.

Detailed performance

The balance is the headline. Tap the information button in the corner of that card for Account Performance, which is where the detail behind it lives.

An individual account screen, with the information button on the balance card picked out.
The Account Performance sheet, showing allocation, return rate, profit and loss, and contributions.
What it opens.
SectionWhat it shows
AllocationHow much of the account is invested, and how much is sitting in cash
Return rateYour money-weighted return for the period shown, and the same figure annualised
Profit and lossTotal gains, split into unrealised and realised, and the cost basis they are measured against
ContributionsNet contributions over the life of the account, with deposits and withdrawals separately

Three of those are worth defining, because they are easy to read the wrong way:

  • Unrealised gains are on paper. The position is worth more than you paid and you still hold it. Realised gains come from something actually sold, and those are the ones that matter at tax time in a taxable account.
  • Money-weighted return takes account of when you added or withdrew money, so it reflects your own timing rather than the market's alone. The dates it covers are printed above the figure.
  • Cost basis is what you paid for what you currently hold. Gains are the difference between that and today's value.

Contributions are counted per account, so an IRA shows what you have put into that IRA rather than across everything you hold.

note

The figures in the screenshot above come from a sample account and are there to show where each number sits, not to represent any return you should expect.

Inside a holding

Tap any position, VTI or AAPL or whatever it is, to see:

  • Market price and estimated price
  • Position value, shares, and account weight
  • Type and asset class, so you can see what role it plays
  • Sector and exposure, broken down as a bar

Your portfolio strategy

alooola builds and manages the portfolio; you choose the strategy it follows. Open an account, tap the three dots, then Change portfolio to compare the available strategies side by side and switch. See account settings.

Changing your strategy triggers a rebalance. It is not something to do on a market headline. But if your goals or timeline genuinely change, change it.

If a figure does not appear correct, email support@alooola.com with the account and the figure in question, and we will investigate.
